After recently tearing up London’s Moth Club with their punk and garage sound, Sydney outfit Skegss are set to return to the UK and Ireland. Starting from the 20th of November, they will be hitting several cites across the island. And with a brand new debut album My Own Mess in their luggage, the Byron Bay based musicians will show England, the home of punk, what the southern hemisphere has to offer.
The LP includes 15 original tracks and was released on Friday (you can read our review of the album HERE). Singles like “Stop” and “Up In the Clouds” are loaded with the bands kinetic sound and riotous lyrics, while the more melodic songs “Midnight Eyes” and “Road Trip” are sung with a tender voice.
On My Own Mess, Toby Cregan, Jonny Lai and Ben Reed have fused Blink 182-esque punk with sunny laid-back surf tunes. It’s youth revolt attitude mixed with the longhaired Byron Bay surfer, and it’s given them a loyal audience nation wide. With beats that make you jump and lyrics you cannot help but scream along to, the trio has been packing Aussie venues like sardine cans.
But when asked about their increasing success bassist Cregan said he didn’t “wanna fucking think about that”, so the down-to-earth band is still playing crowded clubs like it was a jam with friends. It is exactly their relaxed feel which makes them so authentic and we love them even more for it.
Before the Skegss fly off to Europe they will give their homeland an ear penetrating treatment of their new album as well. From the 13th of October to 4th of November, you can catch Tony, Jonny and Ben all across Australia, with some U18 dates included, and US outfit Twin Peaks in support duties. And then here’s where you can catch them in the Mother Country:
