This Summer, Stan will introduce us to another new, and original series. From creator, writer and Executive Producer Glen Dolman, comes mystery drama series Bloom. The series takes place in an idyllic country town, one year after a devastating flood kills five of their local residents, where a mysterious new plant with the power to restore their youth appears. Bloom deals with the scarcity of time and the choices we make, where beyond the impulses of youth and the regrets of age, a secret lies, with the potency and means of re-evaluating everything that is important. A secret some will kill to keep.
Bloom stars two-time Oscar nominee Jacki Weaver (Silver Linings Playbook, Animal Kingdom) as Gwen, a previously successful actress now suffering from Alzheimer’s, and Bryan Brown (The Light Between Oceans, Red Dog: True Blue, Gods of Egypt) as Ryan; Gwen’s husband who is loving, gentle and intelligent, but who has been forced to move his wife into a care facility due to her worsening condition.
The series also stars Australian actress Phoebe Tonkin (The Originals, The Vampire Diaries, Safe Harbour, The Affair) as Young Gwen, whose adolescent cravings create a tug of war between her young self and her adult self, and Ryan Corr (Holding the Man, Hacksaw Ridge) as Sam, a youthful stranger who blows into town with incredible and violent instincts, which hint at his true “adult self” and his own dark past.
The series is directed by John Curran (Chappaquiddick, Tracks, The Killer Inside Me, The Painted Veil), produced by Sue Seeary (Love Child, House Husbands, Bite Club), and executive produced by Rob Gibson and Nick Forward (Romper Stomper, No Activity, Wolf Creek, The Other Guy), and Playmaker’s David Maher and David Taylor (Bite Club, The Wrong Girl, Love Child, Reckoning). The series is also shot by AACTA-winning cinematographer Geoff Hall (Wolf Creek, Red Dog, Chopper) and Matt King (Pine Gap, Doctor Who, Law & Order UK) who also directs the final episode of the series.
