The Fairgrounds Festival hit the Berry Showgrounds at the weekend, and the fourth incarnation of this festival was the greatest yet.
On the back of winning an ARIA a week ago, Vance Joy delivered in spades on the Friday night. The night was closed out by the super-terrestrial Pond, who never disappoint.
On Saturday, The Breeders were one of many highlights, playing a set featuring their hits across their entire catalogue, including many off of Splash. Billy Bragg was as engaging as ever, delivering a steady dose of his hits, and commonsense as to how to treat your fellow humans. Local favourite Courtney Barnett rocked out, Will Gardner, Waxahatchee and Maddy Jane charmed. Kevin Morby was yet another highlight.
One of the features of the festival was the collaborations between various artists. Kim and Kelley Deal popped up in Courtney Barnett’s set, and she returned the favour during The Breeders. Kevin Morby and Katie Crutchfield (Waxahatchee) also made a cameo with Courtney, who also featured during a song with Billy Bragg. It was that sort of festival. Other great acts to feature included Winston Surfshirt, Sampa The Great, The Teskey Brothers, Totty, Charlie Collins and many more.
