The Hoodoo Gurus hit the stage at Taronga Zoo on Saturday night, a sold-out gig playing to a crowd that many would have been at some of their earliest gigs, some 35 years ago. Many of these were reliving the fervour of those early times with exceptional enthusiasm.
It was a crowd pleasing set, drawing on their classic debut album Stoneage Romeos, right through to Crackin’ Up from their most recent album, Purity of Essence. A request on the night for ‘Be My Guru’, the b-side to My Girl was added to the set-list, and a few rarities such as Dig It Up received an airing. The band was having a great time – Brad Shepherd’s back-bending guitar riffs sounded as fresh as ever, and Dave Faulkner’s vocals had a willing audience providing the backing vocals.
They were well supported by Wesley Fuller and Bleeding Knees Club.
Bruce Baker was there to bring you these photos.
