Today we’re stoked to be bringing you the exclusive premiere of “Shadow Boxing”, the latest track from rising Brisbane foursome Blood Bank.
High school mates Sam Pennisi (vocals/guitar), Tom Ryan (vocals/guitar/synth), Will Kilah (drums), and Peter Katsanevas (bass/vocals) have been ripping up the Brisbane post-punk scene since they formed back in 2016. Counting Joy Division, Iggy Pop, The National, and Violent Soho among their influences, they’ve really begun to make a name for themselves in the past year or so, with energetic live performances and a raw, unpredictable sound that’s all their own.
“Shadow Boxing” is the third single from Blood Bank, following last year’s “Alone” and “Far Gone”. They’ve taken the DIY route this time round, recording everything at vocalist Sam’s house, and the end result is a real labour of love, with the boys able to take their time with the process and do things their own way.
The track was born after Sam experienced a bad breakup and found himself at a total loss. He says:
““Shadow Boxing” is a song we wrote about bad decision making and avoiding tackling things head on. In my life, I’ve seen people do the wrong thing knowingly and then avoid facing the consequences of their own actions; they’ve got all the excuses to justify their actions but never deal with them.”
Sam’s hopeful the lyrics will speak to a few people, and that the four piece’s infectious energy will reach as many people possible. “I want people to feel like they’ve got a home in our music,” he says.
You can check out “Shadow Boxing” in our exclusive premiere below, ahead of the track’s release tomorrow. Be sure to follow their Facebook page for upcoming tour dates – this is a band you’re definitely going to want to see live!
