It finally happened. After years of asking, of patient and dedicated petitioning, Bear and Bird are coming home. Banjo-Kazooie was confirmed for Super Smash Bros. Ultimate during this year’s Nintendo E3 Direct broadcast.
We get a look at the dream team at work in-game, complete with classic N64-era design and move-list. It’s the stuff of dreams, a moment the Smash Bros community have spent years holding out hope for.

The trailer, which features the Donkey Kong crew being trolled by the Duck Hunt dog, is a landmark moment. Banjo and Kazooie haven’t appeared on a Nintendo console since Rare was purchased by Microsoft just over 15 years ago. It speaks to how willing to work with partners, even other hardware makers, Microsoft has become in this hardware generation.
Original developer Rare took to Twitter to mark the occasion.
You asked. We listened. Nintendo were listening too, and we were happy to work with our old friends to make this one a reality. Banjo and Kazooie are coming to Super #SmashBrosUltimate! https://t.co/itIuobRF5e

There’s no date for their release at this stage, but it’s nice to know they’re coming home after so long.
