The 2019 ARIA Awards season has officially launched! With less than seven weeks until Australian music’s night of nights, the ARIAs have named their nominees, with the Artisan and Fine Arts award winners already nabbing their coveted pointed statues.
Leading the nomination count is Tones & I, with eight noms phenomenally under her belt. To give you some context, her debut single “Johnny Run Away” was released merely seven months ago, with the artist taking out the record of most weeks at number 1 on the ARIA Singles Chart by an Australian artist, just this week. Her career trajectory has been the most overnight of success, with Toni Watson beginning the year living out of her van and busking, to drawing the largest opening slot crowd of approximately 20,000 punters to her midday set at Splendour In The Grass. Just as Amy Shark swept the awards clean last season, it’s expected for Tones to do the same.
The Teskey Brothers and Thelma Plum equal second on the leader board with seven nominations each, and with Sam Teskey already taking him his ARIA for Best Engineer of the Year.
This year, YouTube Music is giving fans the chance to vote for Best Video and Song of the Year directly through Google Search by searching ‘ARIA Vote’ and following the prompts. Using their Google Account, viewers can vote once per day, per category, until midnight on November 20th.
Hosting the big night will be nominee Guy Sebastian, who’s up for four awards across the night including Best Male Artist and Best Pop Release.
