The Sony Foundation Australia’s annual charity stream event, Gaming4Life, kicks off tomorrow, February 1. The focus of this year’s event is on raising money for the Australian bushfire appeal.
Gaming4Life is an open call to Twitch streamers around the world to use their platform and audiences for good. The Sony Foundation works with participating streamers to unlock official Sony and PlayStation giveaways for their most active viewers. The grand prize: an all-expenses-paid holiday at Club Med Bali. The winner will have to pay for flights.
So where will all the money raised be going? The Sony Foundation says in a press release that they will be focusing on “delivering youth-focused recovery projects to address young people’s needs in the communities hardest hit.” “Natural disasters are a unique form of trauma being distinguished by the loss of one’s local services, social networks, community hall or sports club and opportunities for social gatherings.” The goal is to help kids and teenagers suffering from PTSD navigate the challenges of the bushfire appeal and recovery effort.
Gaming4Life launched in 2017 and has, to date, raised over $100,000 USD. Over 70 Twitch streamers from every corner of the platform have previously participated, generating over 2,000 individual donations
