Fresh from an impressive summer of festivals and gigs, Canberra’s up-and-coming grunge rockers Teen Jesus and the Jean Teasers return with their new single, “Desk Chair”.
Formed at a Year 10 sleepover after watching School of Rock, the Canberra four piece are only nineteen and fresh from high school. But, thanks to their gritty and grungy brand of pop/rock they’re grabbing plenty of attention and airplay alike.
New single “Desk Chair” sees the band consolidating the youthful and grungy sound of their last two singles. All whilst continuing to further develop and evolve their sound. Vocally “Desk Chair” feels more idiosyncratic in its delivery for me. It’s punchier and feels more confident in style and delivery.
The track saw the group team up with Jon Grace (Dear Seattle/Kingswood) and Ben Moore (Moaning Lisa). And, according to guitarist Scarlett McKahey the track is “a tribute to teenage feelings, and the problems that seem life changing but turn out to be insignificant. It’s about self-sabotage and wanting what you don’t have”. Pretty relatable content whatever your age group.
2019 was a busy year for the Canberrans. They were the Triple J Unearthed feature artist in June. Performed at a capacity showcase at BIGSOUND. And found themselves on a pretty successful festival run, including playing the local leg of Groovin the Moo, as well as St. Jeromes Laneway, Falls Festival and more.
Now they’re about the head out on tour again, taking “Desk Chair” out on the road up and down the East Coast later this month. We’re only just a week into February, but it looks like 2020 is going to be another busy year for Teen Jesus and the Jean Teasers
“Desk Chair” is out now. Find Teen Jesus and the Jean Teasers on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram.
