Following their recently announced partnership with Lonely Planet, Intrepid Travel have revealed a major growth to their leading sustainable tour portfolio with the addition of adventures in Pakistan.
A 17-day expedition from Islamabad to Lahore, travelling through the remote reaches of the Karakoram Mountains and searching for snow leopards, bears, wolves and rare Marco Polo sheep in Khunjerab National Park, will run twice in 2020. The first scheduled trip will depart on August 17th and wrap on September 2nd, while the second will run from September 2nd to 18th.
Pakistan’s tourism industry has been thriving in recent years, with visitors to the country doubling between 2018 and 2019 according to Pakistan Prime Minister Imran Khan. The introduction of substantial Intrepid Travel tours to this oft unexplored part of the world will give visitors the chance to do the above, while also participating in other highlights like checking out the ancient site of Taxila, a World Heritage listed ruins influenced by Persia, Greece and Buddhism, as well as enjoying a homestay with a local family in Gulmit.
“We’re always looking to develop experiences that will get travellers out of their comfort zones, to break new ground and to broaden their horizons,” said Tara Kennaway, Senior Product Manager – Operations, Intrepid Trave. “We’re excited to be providing the global community with access to Pakistan, one of the world’s few countries that remain under-the-radar with tourists.”
The trip, like all other Intrepid Travel tours, is carbon-offset and has been designed carefully to have a low environmental footprint while having a positive impact on local communities. Titled the “Pakistan Expedition”, the tour is priced from $4,370 per person and begins in the capital of Islamabad and ends in Lahore.
