One of the most beloved aspects of 2016’s DOOM was its furious, hypnotic heavy metal soundtrack. Composed by Melbourne producer Mick Gordon, it perfectly complemented the game’s hellish atmosphere and balletic combat. With DOOM Eternal now only weeks away, metal fans are primed to hear Gordon’s new material.
Part of that new material may surprise: Gordon has put together a heavy metal choir.
The DOOM Eternal heavy metal choir got a moment to shine in the latest behind-the-scenes mini-doc. Gordon and lead audio designer Chad Mossholder staged an open call for metal singers in Austin, Texas. Numerous musicians and singers answered the call. The video has appearances from Static-X, Ministry and Fear Factory bassist Tony Campos, The Anchor‘s Linzey Rae, Black Crown Initiate‘s Jason Dorton and Wesley Merritt of The World I Knew. Also included, Wildspeaker‘s Natalie Kahan, Aborted‘s Sven de Caluwé and the late, great throat singer Nature Ganganbaigal of Tengger Cavalry.
Gordon divides the room into male and female vocalists, instructing the choir on the finer points of singing in the game’s bespoke, demonic language.
DOOM Eternal launches on PlayStation 4, Xbox One and Windows PC on March 20, 2020.
