London-based singer-songwriter Tadhg Daly released his new single, “Come Alive”, earlier this month. It’s his second release of the year, and probably his most personal to date. As Daly describes it, “Come Alive” is a “song for anyone who’s found themselves lost in darkness. It’s a song for anyone that’s searching for the light.”
It’s no secret that we’re fans of Daly’s work at the AU. We’ve featured two of his previous single, “Hit The Ground” and “Stuck In The Middle” as Tracks of the Day in the past. This new single sees Daly continue to produce work of a high quality, both in musically and lyrically. The decision, whether intentional or not, to focus on releasing singles, really appears to be paying off. The quality and focus remains consistently high. And, even though they’re all stand alone releases, there’s still a strong sense of continuity in both style and substance.
As with Daly’s previous releases, “Come Alive” is that sweet blend of heartfelt poignant songwriting and accessible radio friendly pop. There’s no doubt this is an incredibly personal song, his posts on social media suggest as much, but I’d be surprised if most listeners couldn’t relate to it in even some small way. At the very least the lyric “hold on while the whole world’s upside down”, is advice we could all do with taking right about now.
