On Thursday night, over 250 people descended on 148 King Street, Newtown, to sample the finest Middle Eastern dishes, at the official launch of Sabbaba’s latest restaurant.

Guests from the worlds of food, music, arts, media and the local Newtown business community, were treated to ample servings of Sabbaba’s famous falafels made from the finest chickpeas, served in freshly baked pita bread and stuffed with the flavours of the world: tomatoes, pickles, hummus, babaganoush and nutty tahini.

Sabbaba’s infamous pesto falafels made a welcome appearance, served with the perfect accompaniment of cool sour cream. Guests sipped on frozen passionfruit margaritas, whilst plates of grilled haloumi cheese were served with garden-fresh mint and tomatoes along with skewers of lean, grilled, chicken marinated in a blend of Middle Eastern spices, lamb koftas, oven-baked pitas and home-made dips. Nom nom nom.

Whilst Bang Gang DJ Jamie Doom performed to the crowd, professional graffiti artist Mr Perso, whose vibrant works adorn the walls of the Retail Design Award winning restaurant, created a live art installation.

Sabbaba already boasts a cult following, thanks to the eleven years that it has been proudly serving the residents of Bondi and now, the latest Newtown restaurant is set to follow in the same legendary footsteps.
