We were originally going to do a top 20 tracks of 2010, but the AU review crew delivered such a diverse range of tracks – in such a close race – that we had to expand the list to the top 40!
Much like the Hottest 100, the only rule was that the track had to have been released in some form in 2010 – whether it be as a single/EP or as a part of a full length record.
For the most part, rather than go on and on about why we chose the songs as we did in the albums of the year countdown – we’re going to let the songs speak for themselves. We hope you discover a few new tracks in amongst it!
40.
We kick things off with a song you may be surprised to see so low on the list… I’ll provide you with another fun fact. It’s the only time that Hot Chip will appear in the countdown. Indeed, you’re in for an interesting ride…
Hot Chip – One Life Stand
39.
Our first Aussie entry on the countdown is Perth singer/songwriter (and Ivy League homeboy), Wons Phreely.
Wons Phreely – The World Has a Bank Account
38.
We turn to Sydney now and up-and-comers The Holidays, who released a plethora of brilliant material in 2010.
The Holidays – Golden Sky
37.
Staying in Sydney, Parades were a surprise entry into the Top 10, and they continue their AU review love with an entry from their album Foreign Tapes. Although “Hunters” was released as a single back in 2009, its reemergence on the full length made it elible for our countdown.
Parades – Hunters
36.
Moving over to the UK now, we hear a track from Klaxons – a favourite from their sophomore LP.
Klaxons – Echoes
35.
Narrowly missing out on our albums countdown, Perth sons Birds of Tokyo are a welcome entry at 35.
Birds of Tokyo – Plans
34.
Melbourne’s electronic wonders are back with a new single that seems to be impressing the masses…
Cut Copy – Take Me Over
33.
All the way back in January, Vampire Weekend produced one of the best albums of 2010, and thanks in part to an impressive music video, it’s no surprise to see “Giving Up The Gun” making its way onto out countdown. We’re still tapping our toes to it!
Vampire Weekend – Giving Up the Gun
32.
Another one of our “this low on the charts!?” entries – LCD Soundsystem killed it with the new album This Is Happening, and “I Can Change” has become a fan favourite since its release. With no official video to date, we hope you enjoy this live version!
LCD Soundsystem – I Can Change
31.
Sydney three-piece Art Vs Science dropped a pretty heavy track in this one… a risk no doubt, but it paid off big time.
Art Vs. Science – Magic Fountain
Check back in later in the week when we continue the countdown…
