$110,000 IN FUNDING FOR ALL AGES EVENTS
On Monday, the NSW Minister for the Arts, Hon. George Souris, announced $110,00 in funding to assist young people through the State to stage their own all ages, drug and alcohol free music events.
Indent, the peak youth network for contemporary music (and a project of MusicNSW), will distribute the funds in the form of Partnership Grants and the continuation of their tour in 2012. The Partnership Grants across two categories will fund all ages’ festivals, music video competitions, band nights and more. Indent is also reinvesting $2,500 back into the program to fund an extra team.

NEW MUSIC VENUE OPENS IN NEWCASTLE
Chino’s Bar, located on the Denison street side of The Cambridge Hotel in Newcastle West, aims to fill the gap in Newcastle’s nightlife of a boutique music and arts venue with an intimate Melbourne style bar feel. The venue launched on Wednesday 11th January with Mother & Son and their next venture will be San Francisco’s Thee Oh Sees on Wednesday 18th January. BIG DAY OUT PARTNERS WITH LOLLAPALOOZA
Big Day Out Festival has announced a new partnership with C3 Presents, promoters of Lollapalooza and Austin City Limits Music Festival.
Big Day Out and C3 will collaborate in the continued growth and expansion of the Big Day Out Festival in Australia with the union of talent development, creative execution and production, commercial excellence and innovation to expand on what a global music business can achieve.
C3 Presents, with its rapid expansion of festivals and touring activity in the South American market, along with its depth of relationships with artists and audiences in the US, will work with Big Day Out to focus particular attention on what their Trans-Pacific relationship can offer to increase opportunities for Australian and international artists across the Northern and Southern Hemispheres. In other words, how to save costs while maintaining a certain quality of performer… Should be very interesting in the years ahead.
SHOCK RECORDS CEO STEPS DOWN
Shock founder David Williams is stepping down as CEO after 24 years. Having formed Shock in 1988 with partners Andrew McGee and Frank Falvo, David has decided it’s time to ‘get the hell out of the way’. Williams is putting Shock, now owned by Regency Media, in the hands of Executive GM Scot Crawford. Williams will continue to work with both Regency and Shock on developing new ventures.

Revisiting the top of the ARIA Album Chart for a fourth spell, and chalking up twenty-four non-consecutive weeks at the peak, is last year’s global breakthrough album 21 from Adele. The smash hit “Sexy And I Know It” from pop duo LMFAO holds at the ARIA Singles Chart pinnacle for the second week this year, and total of nine weeks overall.

AUSSIE FASHION TO GET LOVE AT SXSW
Australian fashion label Zanerobe will be joining other international labels such as What Goes Around Comes Around, at Style X (pronounced Style By), the official fashion showcase for SXSW 2012.
Zanerobe was launched by Leith Testoni and Jonathon Yeo nearly a decade ago and has quickly turned into one of the top emerging brands around the world with products featured in Japan’s Barneys, Saks and Neiman Marcus in the U.S. and our own David Jones.
NEW APPOINTMENT ANNOUNCED AT APRA
The Australasian Performing Right Association (APRA) has announced that Catherine Giuliano has been appointed as Deputy Director, Publisher Services. Ms Giuliano moves into her new role from her current position as APRA’s Deputy Director, Licensing Services, which she has held since 2008.
BOY AND BEAR’S NEW MANAGEMENT
As recently reported by The Daily SPA, Boy & Bear are moving into the management portfolio of Wonderlick Entertainment – who also represent bands like Airbourne, Josh Pyke and Grinspoon. They were previously managed by Guy Morrow and Rowan Brand, who took the band under their wing while at Macquarie University together. I’m sure it’s not the last we’ll hear of this move, which given their recent ARIA onslaught and success overseas, has taken some by surprise.
UNDERWORLD’S OPENING CEREMONY
A bit of an old hat now but Underworld duo Rick Smith and Karl Hyde will work alongside British filmmaker and producer Danny Boyle, Artistic Director of the Opening Ceremony and will be responsible for all the music in the three-hour ceremony taking place on July 27, 2012.
KEYNOTE SPEAKERS ANNOUNCED FOR FUSE 2012 IN ADELAIDE
Fuse 2012 has announced that one of the country’s biggest players in the music industry, Brett Cottle – CEO of APRA/AMCOS, will be joining other international and local guest speakers to provide the keynote addresses at Fuse 2012. The other keynote speakers are Jon McIldowie (The Great Escape UK), Alicen Catron Schneider (Head, TV Music – Creative/Vice President, Music Creative Services for NBC Universal Television) and Ariel Hyatt, who founded Ariel Publicity, and a good friend of the AU!

FILTER MAGAZINE ANNOUNCES 10TH ANNIVERSARY
FILTER Magazine, the USA music publication championing the motto “Good Music Will Prevail”, has announced its 10th anniversary as an independently-owned, avant-garde music magazine. NEW SIGNINGS AND DISTRIBUTION DEALS
Say Anything will release their forthcoming full-length album, Anarchy, My Dear on UNFD in Australia and New Zealand, this March.
House Vs Hurricane, meanwhile, have signed to UNFD for Recording and Management. Just last week they played their last show with original front man Chris Dicker to make way for long-term friend Dan Casey, who is also the vocalist for Adelaide band Nazarite Vow.
Australian 4 piece thrash band 4ARM have signed a record deal with Rising Records. The band’s label debut which will be their third studio album overall is scheduled for a February 6, 2012 release.
Warp Records have announced they have signed New York up-and-comers My Best Fiend. You can download their latest track “Higher Palms”, which is now available as a 7” single, here.
Fuse Music has announced that they are now the official Australian distributor of British independent label Peaceville Records, Mike Patton’s Ipecac Records and great Memphis garage rock label Goner – original home of Jay Reatard and Ty Segall, and US home of Melbourne’s Eddy Current Suppression Ring.
EMI Music announced last month the signing of Swedish superstar DJ and producer Eric Prydz, to Virgin Records.
Epitaph Records have signed Los Angeles based heavy melodic hardcore band The Ghost Inside.
Roadrunner Records have welcomeed multi-platinum rock band Shinedown to their family. Their first release together, Amaryllis, will arrive in stores and at all digital retailers on March 23, 2012.
