So? Did we get it right?
Well, we were pretty convinced on The Cure playing, so were a bit off the ball there. In fact the band who was booked as a headliner who had previously played a festival in Australia before was the band who played Big Day Out back in 2008, Arcade Fire! And we didn’t even rate them as a possibility. But we’re pretty damn excited that they’re a part of it. You can be we’ll be front and centre at any show they play.
Pearl Jam we rated as a 50/50 chance, and thankfully the glass was definitely half full for them. Portugal. The Man came in at 65% odds, and they did us proud on that one. The Lumineers, meanwhile, were an 80% chance, and they were indeed part of the lineup. We can thank some sneaky Twitter sluething for that one. And of all the bands we spoke about in our part two article that’s all that made it through to the first lineup!
And looking back to Part One, both Kendrick Lamar and Phoenix were bands we sat at 80% odds, buth neither of them made the lineup. It’s possible one or the other may be added later down the track, but it’s also just as likely that we’ll see either artist on Future and Falls, respectively. Meanwhile, we had Blur sitting right down the bottom on a rather underwhelming 10%. So we’re pretty stoked they made it in the end.
Though it’s much more of a top heavy lineup than it was last year, you’re not going to head us complaining. Throw in artists like Snoop and unexpected yet inspired additions like Mudhoney, DIIV and Cosmic Psychos and we have ourselves a really interesting lineup, with some of the world’s biggest artists at the helm.
