Ahead of their BIGSOUND appearance, Melbourne duo Clubfeet let us in on what they’re up to at the moment, what we can expect from them at BIGSOUND, they join in on the loving Nick Cave bandwagon and fill us in on the US release of Heirs and Graces.
Tell us what you’re up to at the moment / what are you promoting at BIGSOUND?
We’ve recently finished a national tour and just spent a week in the tropics making sure we’re not too pasty come BIGSOUND. We’ll be promoting reckless dancing and late-check outs.
Have you played BIGSOUND before?
This is our first time. Chastity begone!
Have you played any overseas industry events before?
We played CMJ a couple of years back. We almost missed our first show due to lost visas. Once we were there it was insane, ten shows in six days in sweaty basements. After months of therapy we’ve finally recovered from that experience and are ready to undo all the good work at BIGSOUND.
As you haven’t played BIGSOUND before – what have you heard about it and what are you expecting?
We’ve heard it’s the Christy Turlington of music industry events. Charming, leggy, a knock out in a swimsuit, and by far the brightest of the bunch.
What can crowds expect from your shows?
David Copperfield has been a big influence on our shows. Our singer Sebastian does a lot of flying around with invisible cables. We know Pink has been doing the harness and ropes thing for a while now, but it’s pretty lame that you can see the ropes. Where’s the magic in that? Come on Pink, lift!
Are there any bands you’re looking forward to seeing perform?
We played a show with Bleeding Knees Club in LA a couple of years ago and enjoyed hanging out with them so we’ll definitely check them out. We’ll also be checking out Mining Boom even though we wish we had thought of that name first!
Any talks/speakers you’re looking forward to?
When Nick Cave speaks. We listen. We’ll also be checking out Martin Novosel who has been described as a prodigious maverick.
What are three essential items for life on the road?
Monty never leaves without at least four copies of The New Yorker and anything by Dr. Irvine Yalom. LeBruce has to have his Bros T-shirt and a compilation of his favorite symphonies on MiniDisk. Yves travels with a full-size telescope as he has a passion for astrology and Sebastian likes to travel with three suits in varying shades of black.
What has been your favourite Australian album of the year so far and why?
Jagwar Ma’s album is pretty special. Even Noel Gallagher’s a fan!
What will the rest of 2013 be holding for you?
Our record Heirs and Graces is about to be released in North America and Europe which is very exciting indeed! Apart from playing a few shows here and there we’re going to be scouring the earth in search of inspiration for new material!
