The BIGSOUND music conference kicks off today in Brisbane, with BIGSOUND LIVE taking over Fortitude Valley from tomorrow. Fremantle’s The Love Junkies are one of the showcasing bands at the event (and you can see them DJ at our 5th Birthday Party on Friday!) so we caught up with them to get a taste of what we might expect from their BIGSOUND performances… read on!
Tell us what you’re up to at the moment…
We’re just chilling a little before BIGSOUND really. We’ve been playing heaps of shows lately and have done a whole bunch of touring so we’re just laying back and jamming some new bits and bobs. Getting the creative juices flowing. We’re going to jump in the studio before we head off and start laying down some new tracks which we’re rather excited about.
Have you played BIGSOUND before?
This will be our first time at the big ol’ BS. Hopefully they’re gentle, and tell us that we’re pretty.
Have you played any overseas industry events before?
No we haven’t. It was only this year that we got over east so…
As you haven’t played BIGSOUND before – what have you heard about it and what are you expecting?
I’ve had a few friends play over the years and they’ve all had good things to say. I’m looking forward to catching some of the conference, especially hearing what Nick Cave has to say about the whole biz. Also, it’s a great way to catch a whole lot of bands that you don’t see too often in sleepy old Perth.
What can crowds expect from your shows?
Good, dirty, sweaty fun.
Are there any bands you’re looking forward to seeing perform?
Dune Rats, King Gizzard and the Lizard Wizard and The Sinking Teeth.
Any talks/speakers you’re looking forward to?
Nick Cave of course.
What are three essential items for life on the road?
Insulin, jelly beans and under pants.
What has been your favourite Australian album of the year so far and why?
I See Seaweed by The Drones
What will the rest of 2013 be holding for you?
Well, I guess after BIGSOUND we’ll be finishing off a bunch of new stuff in the studio for an EP we’ll be releasing shortly, and then hitting up Melbourne for some new years fun times.
