The BIGSOUND music conference kicks off today in Brisbane, with BIGSOUND LIVE taking over Fortitude Valley from tomorrow. Brisbane’s Halfway are one of the showcasing bands at the event so we caught up with them to see what they’re up to and to get a taste of what we might expect from their BIGSOUND performances… read on!
Tell us what you’re up to at the moment…
We just returned from Melbourne after playing at the NGV Monet up late series of shows & now we are finishing up our new LP. Which will be out in Sept/Oct.
Have you played BIGSOUND before? What have your experiences been like in the past? Has anything specific come of being showcased at the event?
Yeah we played in 2011 & recorded a couple of songs with Peter Jespersen as a result(The Replacements/Twin Tone/New West)
What can crowds expect from your shows?
1982 The Hacienda, Manchester. Moz & Johnny, Andy & Mike…only less gladioli.
Are there any bands you’re looking forward to seeing perform?
Davey Lane, probably others I just haven’t seen them yet.
Any talks/speakers you’re looking forward to?
Nice Cave, Billy Bragg
What are three essential items for life on the road?
Just take the basics, combined with low expectations & you will be fine.
What has been your favourite Australian album of the year so far and why?
The Underground Lovers – Weekend. Always liked them & I am glad they are back.
What will the rest of 2013 be holding for you?
We will be spending the back end of the year Touring/Launching the new Halfway record.
