Red Beard are currently on tour with Red Jumpsuit Apparatus, hitting up a huge amount of venues around the nation through until November 23rd. The Gympie act who are beginning to make waves themselves, have guitarist Michael McKiernan answer some questions the AU had for them about touring, plans for 2014 and how releasing their Enigma EP has treated them.
Red Beard is one of those band names that seems original and unique – What was the inspiration behind the name?
It just came about, really. Tomi has a luscious beard, Joel is a red head and Reece’s initials are R.B.
Tell us about the writing process behind Enigma.
Lyrically, Enigma was a bit of a concept record, following the story of a hit man. The writing of all the music however was a very organic process.
Were you surprised at all by the attention it received?
Absolutely. We are still getting so much mileage out of Enigma. We’d definitely be lying if we said we expected such a massive reception to the EP.
What was your biggest motivation to form the band?
For all of us, music had always been an innate desire. Ultimately, we want to be able to travel all around the world, meeting and experiencing the vast beauty of this planet, whilst sharing our music with all.
What was the motivation/inspiration to adding the fourth & fifth members to the group?
Sharing the love! We want our sound to develop and grow.
Following the successes of this year did you ever think you would be playing with a band like Red Jumpsuit Apparatus?
We certainly didn’t see it coming! However this is what we have been working our asses off for. We are extremely honoured to be touring this beautiful country with such a well respected band.
As a young band that has fiercely broken into the industry do you feel that an online presence in necessary?
Definitely. It is an integral part of reaching our friends and fans.
Are there any plans for a new album or headline tour in the future?
2014 will see Red Beard back in the studio once more! We have some huge news to drop, but we can’t say too much just yet. Stay tuned!
