Ahead of this weekend’s Australia Day fundraiser at the Reverence Hotel in Footscray, Melbourne, supporting Oxfam and The Refugee Council, we’re catching up with a bunch of the bands playing at the event! Next up is Brad, the guitarist from Melbourne’s punk/metal outfit Outright.
Tell us who you are, what band you’re from and where your band is from!
My name is Brad, I play guitar in Outright and we’re from Melbourne.
What is your latest single/album and where can we get it?
It’s not that new, but we have a 7” titled ‘Dedication’ which is available here: http://outright-hc.bandcamp.com/ and here: http://outright.bigcartel.com/. We’re currently finishing off the writing process for what will become our debut album, we’re aiming to have that out early to mid-2014..
Tour wise, what do you have in store for 2014?
After we play Australia Day at The Rev on Saturday (25th) we jump in a van and drive straight to Sydney to play Australia Day at The Metro with Backtrack (USA), Iron Mind, Relentless, The Others, Civil War, Machina Genova, Mood Swing, Downside and Controlled. www.metrotheatre.com.au
Aside from that we’re just looking to get this album out and then book a launch tour around that.
How would you best describe your music?
Umm, fast and heavy? I’m pretty bad at describing bands I play in. Too close to the action to make an accurate call I guess.
How would you best describe your live show?
Energetic. We’re all fairly into letting out a bit of steam on the stage.
What can we expect from this set in particular?
For the first time in a while we’ll be playing some new material, we have a semi new guitarist, Allan Stacey, who also plays in a rad band called Stockades (http://stockades.bandcamp.com/) but apart from that it’ll be business as usual, jumps and riffs.
Anything special planned?
Yeah, we’ve got a pretty cool little cover up our sleeves (or lack thereof). WHOA OH OHHH
Anyone else you’re looking forward to seeing on the day?
SO MANY!!
I’ve gotta say, there’s going to be a bittersweet moment watching Cavalcade play. One of my favourite Aus bands of the last 5 years, playing their last ever show. I’m going to miss those dudes.
What do you think is the perfect way to spend Australia day?
Either partying at The Reverence Hotel or sitting in a backyard in an inflatable pool watching The Castle on a projector.
You’re performing at an event that is supporting Oxfam and The Refugee Council… what does this mean to you?
I think it’s a great that a stack of idiots with instruments can get together and play a show that raises money for people that really really need it.
Our friend Tom Jenkins has been running this event on Australia Day for 4 years now and has raised over $25,000.
This is our second year playing the event and we’ll keep saying yes as long as we keep being asked, we back this event, the cause and everyone that has worked their butts off to make this happen.
Since we all just voted in the hottest 100, what was your favourite song for 2013?
The Smith Street Band – Don’t Fuck With Our Dreams.
Everyone just be cool to each other already.
