Ahead of their massive rock and roll re-launch party tomorrow night featuring Front End Loader, Chase The Sun, The Lazys and The Morrisons, we caught up with Ben and Howler from The Lewisham Hotel to talk about the venue’s relaunch.

I’m Howler, I do the drum roles.
What can we expect from the re-launch of The Lewisham Hotel on the 5th of April?
I think it fair to expect a lot of notes and volume, in a bluesy kind of way.
What does Rock and Roll mean to you?
Rock and Roll means a big fucking hangover.
How important are venues like the Lewisham for the Sydney scene?
It’s a great stage to play on, I think it’s important to have venues that musos enjoy being at, The Lewisham is one of those. Although I’m extremely biased because I help book the venue.
Pick one band on the lineup and tell us a track you love by them, and why…
I love all the bands on the bill, lot’s of high energy music will be happening for sure. If I had to talk about a track, I’d talk about “All Fired Up” by The Lazys, I first heard them at The Sydney Blues festival, the old blues people didn’t like them because they were too loud (way too loud) and swore a lot on stage, which was just what I needed at 1am in Windsor. This track makes me want to drink too much bourbon and break stuff, and I don’t really even drink bourbon. Kind of like a cross between early Midnight Oil and Twister Sister.

What can we expect from this gig tomorrow night?
Expect to see me pouring drinks, cracking stupid jokes, running round making sure that everyone’s having fun and that generally nothing goes wrong.
What does Rock n Roll mean to you?
It’s all about the unexpected moments when you see something you never thought you’d see and when you’re surrounded by a bunch of cool people having lots of fun.
How important are venues like the Lewisham for the Sydney scene?
We want people who live locally to have a local pub that’s featuring awesome bands every weekend. Hopefully the idea catches on.

Can’t wait to have Front End Loader here. I first saw these guys when I was 18 and I’ve seen them quite a few times since. It’ll be a great thrill to have a band that I’ve seen so many times play in the venue that I’ve put so much work into.

Lots more cool bands and lots more dancing like a maniac.
