Get to know Perth's Methyl Ethel ahead of WAM Festival 2014

This Thursday night the WAM Festival kicks off in Perth for 2014, showcasing the best music of WA – as well as a few guests from Singapore! We’re going to take some time to get to know a few of the WA Music Awards nominees and performers! We kick things off with Methyl Ethel, playing the Saturday Spectacular and nominated for Most Popular New Act.

Tell us who you are, what band you’re in, and how you came to be a part of the band…

Jake Webb, METHYL ETHEL. My bedroom laboratory is where the band began. The music had subsequently oozed out my front door and into some other peoples ears where Chris Wright and Thom Stewart assist me in bleeding it into peoples bodies.

What does the WAM nomination mean to you?

It’ll be nice to party with good buddies and new buddies alike in the celebration of dubb yay music.

What can we expect from your set at WAM?

We’ll go out there, give it 110% and hope to come away with the 4 points.

What excites you about the Perth music scene and how do you think it fits amongst the scenes in the rest of the country?

What excites me about Perth music is what excites me about music. Everyone is so well connected that I could just as easily fall in love with a band from Tel Aviv as I could a band from Mandurah.

Tell us what’s coming up next for you and the band…

Our album Oh Inhuman Spectacle will be out next year and you can catch us playing a bunch of shows around Perth and over east before the end of 2014.
