PACT to present the fourth annual Tiny Stadiums Festival in Sydney, curated by Quarterbred this May

PACT centre for emerging artists presents the fourth annual Tiny Stadiums Festival in Erskineville, Sydney, curated by resident artist run initiative Quarterbred. Featuring two weeks of free and ticketed events, the public is invited to experience stirring contemporary art by some of Australia’s finest emerging artists, culminating in a free weekend of live art from 14-15 May.

Tiny Stadiums aims to lure the curious and delight those who intentionally (or unintentionally!) stumble upon it throughout the streets, shops, pubs and parks that make up Erskineville.

This year, Tiny Stadiums presents a selection of provocative and exciting project that consider art and its social relationship to public space. Activating traditional and non-traditional art spaces in and around the village of Erskineville, the chosen works span mediums including video, performance, live art, participation, installation and duration.

Last year, Tiny Stadiums was nominated for an FBi SMAC Award for best arts event in 2010.

Artists include: Applespiel, Beth Arnold, Lucas Ihlein, Dan Koop, Bennett Miller, Nat Randall, Amy Spiers and Lara Thoms.

PROGRAM HIGHLIGHTS *

Applespiel – Executive Stress/Corporate Retreat

From the collective who brought the participatory installation project Sexy New Urban Design Team to Tiny Stadiums last year, comes Executive Stress/Corporate Retreat, a new show which has been developed through The Space Program at PACT this year. Join Applespiel as they face their business problems – they’re not going to sugarcoat it; the stories are pretty scary, and some of them are true.

Dan Koop – Wish We Were Here

Dan Koop (as DJK International) is offering to hand deliver your Wish You Were Here postcard messages to recipients within 5km of PACT in Erskineville. Visit the booth, write your personalised message and discuss special delivery requirements to (re)connect with somebody nearby.

Nat Randall – Cheer Up Kid

Cheer Up Kid is a one-woman tragi-comedy about childhood anxieties, parenting failures and disturbing matriarchal figures in film. It is a camp and glitzy exploration into the fragile lives of the brothers, sisters, mothers, fathers and Carol Channings of the world.

Lara Thoms – The Experts Project

Over the last year, Lara Thoms has met with people who are unofficial experts. In this three hour lesson, hear her versions of their impressive skills, talents, obsessions and experience. The audience are invited to ask questions… but she may not know the answer!
