Fans of PULP, Jarvis Cocker, and Leonard Cohen should all dig today’s Track of the Day. “Save the Whale” is the latest release from JARV IS, Jarvis Cockers current creative outlet.
The video was created by Jarvis, a man who has clearly used his time wisely whilst been stuck in isolation.
“Save The Whale” bears a certain semblance in style to some of the spoken-word Leonard Cohen tracks, but done well that’s never a bad thing. Cocker appears to acknowledge this when talking about the title of the track: “The title popped into my head as I was leaving the cinema after having seen Nick Broomfield’s “Marianne & Leonard: Words of Love” documentary.”
He also says “The “Smooth World, Wrinkly World” section came from a childhood memory of being ill: I would hear the murmuring of a large crowd accompanied by a visual image of a line-drawing (rather like a Patrick Caulfield painting, I’ve since realised) in which all the objects switched rapidly between being smooth & bulbous & then thin & wrinkly. It used to absolutely terrify me.”
This track will be on their debut album, Beyond The Pale which is due to be released on 17th July via Rough Trade / Remote Control Records. The first single of the album was “Must I Evolve?” and was released in 2019. It will be available on Vinyl, CD and cassette.
In the meantime, enjoy “Save The Whale”
