Adele dominates ARIA album & singles charts for the sixth week running

For the sixth consecutive week, Adele dominates both the ARIA Singles & Album Charts. Eclipsing last week’s effort with it’s strongest sales week to date, “21” chalks up eight straight and twelve non-consecutive weeks at the ARIA Album Chart summit, as her debut record “19” drops just one spot to number four.

“Someone Like You” enjoys its sixth straight week at the ARIA Singles Chart peak, joining Usher’s “OMG” and Eminem’s “Love The Way You Lie” as the equal second-longest running chart-topper of the decade, eclipsed only by LMFAO’s “Party Rock Anthem” featuring Lauren Bennet & GoonRock, which tallied up ten consecutive weeks at the top of the singles chart earlier this year. “Party Rock Anthem” remains at No.4 this week, achieving its seventeenth week in the top 10 and fast approaching a groundbreaking seven times Platinum status. Adele’s “Rolling In The Deep” holds in the ARIA Singles Chart top 10, falling two places to No.7.

Homegrown rockers The Living End claim an impressive No.3 entrance on this week’s ARIA Album Chart with “The End Is Just The Beginning Repeating”, chalking up a seventh top 10 album chart debut. The trio has achieved two No.1 records over the past thirteen years, with theirself-titled release in 1998 and “State Of Emergency” in 2006. The tragic passing of Amy Winehouse has seen three of her records return to the top 40, with the former No.4 album “Back To Black” leading the charge at 6. Winehouse’s double-album offering “Frank/Back To Black” comes in at No.18, followed by the artist’s debut release “Frank”, which achieves its highest chart position to date at No.23. Originally released in 2004, “Frank” didn’t crack the top 100 until 2008, and prior to this week it’s highest chart position was No.68.

Pnau’s latest release “Soft Universe” enters the ARIA Album Chart at No.13, giving the electro-indie outfit their third top 100 album following “Sambanova” in 2000 and 2008’s “Pnau”. Following the recent announcement of their first national tour in almost 30 years, Cold Chisel’s “East” blasts into 19th position, followed by the live offering from the band’s 1983 concert series “The Last Stand” coming in at No.39. “Live At Red Rocks” from another local act, The John Butler Trio, debuts at No.22, as The Ten Tenors’ “Double Platinum” enters in 24th position. The soundtrack from Australian television series “Winners & Losers” races twelve spots up the chart to No.27, followed by Gotye’s “Like Drawing Blood” and Enrique Iglesias’ “Euphoria” which both make a return to the top 40, sitting at No.32 and 37 respectively.

Over on the ARIA Singles Chart, “Moves Like Jagger” from Maroon 5 featuring Christina Aguilera races from No.6 to 2 and looks set to challenge Adele’s position at the top of the chart this week. Local singer/songwriter Gotye’s acclaimed tune “Somebody That I Used To Know”, featuring Kimbra, continues to make an impact in its third week on the chart, blasting up seven spots to No.5. Gotye’s only previous charting single is “Eyes Wide Open”, which peaked at No.55 in November last year. “Bounce” from Calvin Harrisfeaturing Kelis jumps from No.24 to 16, as local songstress Jessica Mauboy claims a No.20 debut with her latest track “Inescapable”.

Pitbull’s “Rain Over Me” featuring Marc Anthony blasts up ten spots to No.24, as Amy Winehouse’s most widely known single “Rehab” eclipses its previous chart peak of No.35, coming in at No.27 this week, closely followed by “Valerie” at No.34. “Jumpstart” from These Kids Wear Crowns shoots up ten spots into 29th position, “Cinema” from Benny Benassi featuring Gary Go debuts at No.38 and Cold Chisel’s anthem “Khe Sanh” rounds out the top 40 in 40th position.
