People of the world, have had their cordial introduction to the debut album Smocks! from Brisbane’s folk-pop ensemble Pear & The Awkward Orchestra. This September, the brain behind this whimsical mini-orchestra, Stephanie Barros Lees, takes to the road sans band, for the Put On Your Smocks Tour.
Since it’s release on July 8, Smocks! has been heard and commended around the country. Feature album on ABC Radio National, appearing in the top ten most played artists on 3RRR and 4ZzZ as well as a few j-plays, on top of glowing reviews, confirm the record as something special.
Intimate full band shows in Sydney, Melbourne and Brisbane followed the release in July. Now, the journey of Smocks! is set to continue around the country, however this September, Stephanie steps out solo. “I adore my band and love what they bring to the sound, but this is about asserting that the songs can stand on their own. Touring solo is about the essence of the songs, being clean and clear and completely honest and direct,” muses Barros Lees.
With a combination of capital city and regional shows, now is the time to see the music of Pear and the Awkward Orchestra in an inherently honest setting.
