Rock ‘n’ roll Sydney-siders, Rockets have been doing laps of their hometown boasting their debut self titled EP that was released in June. Eager to move forward, the four-piece are experimenting with new material at a run of upcoming shows, before diving back into the studio to put down some new tracks.
With an early nod from triple j and community radio for a demo recording of their first single ‘Toad’, Rockets made a bee-line for Red Door Studios in Melbourne to record a four-track EP with Paul “Woody” Annison (Children Collide, Howl, Cabins). Along with the launch of their EP came Rockets’ second single ‘Madeline’ garnering praise with a few spins from the j’s and solid hometown support from tastemaker radio station FBi.
Rockets certainly know how to put on a show; frequenting Sydney live-spots and occasionally spreading their wares further up the east coast. Highlights from the last few months include Sydney University’s Winter Ball alongside Jinja Safari as well as supporting The Beards at rock ‘n’ roll hub The Annandale.
September is a busy month for the quartet. With one show a week, including a spot at Oxford Art Factory’s notoriously huge Birthday Celebrations flanking Deep Sea Arcade, Step Panther and more, Rockets will be test driving new material. Come the end of the month, they’re returning to the studio to start working on their next offering. Rumour has it we can expect a brand new single late October.
