Every trailer from today’s PlayStation 5 Showcase

PS5 Showcase

The PlayStation 5 Showcase is here. The last big show-and-tell of 2020. A slew of brand new trailers and, as the curtain falls, the long awaited release date and pricing details. To say Sony left it all out on the court with this one is to undersell it. There’s a LOT to unpack here, so let’s get started.

Final Fantasy XVI

What a way to open the show. Final Fantasy XVI is coming to PS5 as a console exclusive, but will also launch on PC after the fact. The little message about the demo running on a PC and emulating “the PS5 experience” certainly sent Twitter grumbling but all those gripes went away when we released what it was we were seeing. PlayStation dropped the mic and the show hadn’t even started yet.

Spider-Man: Miles Morales

No confirmation that it’s coming as a launch title, but Spider-Man: Miles Morales promises all the wild combat and spectacular set-pieces of the PS4 original. Miles is a great character, with a few new moves of his own, and we can’t wait to see how he fares in his first solo adventure. The Tinkerer is another great villain pick by Insomniac, who have a talent for taking newer, lesser known baddies and making them truly terrifying.

Hogwarts Legacy

Hogwarts Legacy has been in the works forever. Leaks and glimpses have appeared over the years of an open world action RPG set in the Harry Potter universe but nothing solid ever materialised. Here, we get our first major look.

Reminder: You can still enjoy the Harry Potter universe even if J.K. Rowling is a huge piece of shit. You can still enjoy that world and its characters without buying into a bullshit stance on people trying to live their lives in a way that is true to themselves. The AU Review says trans rights.

Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War

Call of Duty airport RC car goes brrrrrrrrrrrrrr.

Resident Evil VII: Village

The second trailer for Resident Evil Village paints and even darker and grimier picture than RE VII. We’re ready to wander among the darkest of hillside thickets and find out what awaits us in the spookiest little town this side of Silent Hill.

Deathloop

A stand-out trailer in a stand-out show. Deathloop has so much going for it — style, a clear design mandate, and a love for creative problem solving. It stands out because it’s so different to everything else in the line-up, something new among the numerous Open World Action Adventure games.

Devil May Cry 5

One of only a couple of last-gen games to find its way into the showcase, Devil May Cry 5 is on its way to PS5 with a few upgraded bells and whistles.

Oddworld Soulstorm

I love my weird, worm-like, anti-capitalist son Abe. Oddworld Soulstorm is a return to the classic Oddworld vibe, and it appears to be unafraid to bare its political teeth.

Five Nights At Freddy’s: Security Breach

Definitely didn’t need to hear that robot voice at 6:30 in the morning.

Demon’s Souls

A huge win for Bluepoint, a studio with a long pedigree of bringing beloved games to new systems. Demon’s Souls will be a launch title for the PS5 in November. Praise the … sun? No, that’s a different thing.

God of War: Ragnarok

The BOY is back in town. God of War: Ragnarok arrives in 2021.
