Bose is dipping its toes back into the burgeoning world of wellness tech with the next generation of the brand’s bedtime wearable. The Bose Sleepbuds II will arrive in Australian stores next month, bringing demonstrably better noise masking than the first-gen model, as well as new categories of content designed to better target relaxation and rest.
A new acoustic and electronics design is said to help achieve this superior performance, defined by a new enclosure that’s lighter than a dime, new proprietary ear tips for a secure, softer fit, and over 35 free tried-and-tested tracks.
With the tech behind these buds now clinically proven to help people fall asleep faster, the Sleepbuds II are perfectly timed for a world that’s reeling from the absolute shitstorm 2020 has put on for the world, with anxiety at a all time high, which logically means sleep disturbances would be more common.
“Bose Sleepbuds II use advancements in our proprietary noise masking technology because covering sound – not cancelling it – is a better solution for sleeping”, explains head of Bose Health Division Steve Romine. “You can’t duplicate the experience combining earbuds with apps, playing your music louder, or using earplugs and bedside machines – so millions of people are still suffering. We never gave up on helping them, and that’s why we’re so excited about Sleepbuds II”.
As Steve tells it, the buds mask more of the low frequencies found in the biggest threats to a peaceful bedroom, such as snoring partners, idling engines and nearby footsteps. This, combined with new relaxation tracks, helps quiet the mind and ready the body for better quality sleep.
The buds are designed to use with the Bose Sleep App, which lets users set alarms, change volume, and now includes three curated categories of content based on what’s keeping you up at night. This includes 14 noise-masking tracks which mirror the frequencies of night-time disruptions, 15 “naturescapes” to help calm racing thoughts, and 10 “tranquilities” to help lower stress and tension.
The first generation’s battery woes should be addressed as well, with a new Nickel-metal Hydride battery said to power 10 hours of run time based on a single charge, complemented by a new tiny circuit board which stores up to 10 files from the Sleep App’s library.
A new charging case has been designed to provide 30 additional hours of battery life to the sleepbuds, which should easily last through any conditions at night given they are IPX4 related. Comfort while you sleep should also be of no issue, since each bud is roughly a quarter-inch deep to dramatically reduce irritating contact when the head is resting on a pillow at any angle.
The dedication to night-time comfort is furthered by a new anti-friction coating which covers each enclosure to prevent “squeaking” against fabric, and a new pressure equalisation design with softsilicone tips of three different sizes.
