New Music Discoveries 21st January: Khruangbin & Leon Bridges, Lucy Lorenne, Band of Horses and more

This week, in our first update for 2022, our discovery playlist has been loaded up with ten new tracks. This includes our Track of the Week, the latest collaboration between Khruangbin and Leon Bridges, “Chocolate Hills”. The track is the second track to come off the Texas Moon EP, which the artists are putting out on 18th February.

Texas Moon is the companion album to last year’s Texas Sun EP, and this new track oozes with slow moving, psychedelic sensuality, and some terrific guitar work and vocals from Bridges (no surprises there).

Also added to the playlist is “Lights”, the third track to be released from Band of Horses’ long awaited sixth studio album Things Are Great. It’s yet another great sign that things are shaping up well for this album (which you can pre-order HERE), with lead singer Ben Bridwell’s powerful vocals and beautiful lyrics.

Speaking on the track, Bridwell said, “…metaphorically, the song was meant to be a bit uplifting and I’m wishing for a better existence in a way. I’m getting over the things that had been going wrong in my life. The lights go on signifying it’s a better day kind of thing.”

We’ve also featured some artists you may be less familiar with, including Lucy Lorenne, an indie folk artist from Geelong. “Geneva”, her enchanting debut single, is inspired by an unforgettable holiday romance.

Alongside Lucy, we also have Penelope Isles. The Brighton-based band’s new album Which Way To Happy is released today. “Terrified”, one of the albums highlights, is an enjoyable burst of jangle pop, belying the track’s lyrical depth. A solid entry point to a strong sophomore release.

Sydney’s Johnny Hunter, Norway songstress AURORA, Frank Turner, Dublin post-punks Fontaines D.C., Xavier Rudd and Dolly Parton also make appearances this week.

New for 2022, we’re excited to now have our Discovery playlist on Apple Music, which will be updated every Friday:

And you can also listen to the full Discovery playlist on Spotify, which for 2022 will also be updated every Friday!
