Sydney pop rock outfit Peace Ritual have excited with dreamy new single “Cold Shoulder” and the announcement of their self-titled debut EP last Tuesday, out 2 September via Last Ride Records.
Peace Ritual is comprised of Joel Martorana (Endless Heights, Colletto Bianco) and Thomas Elliott (Caged Existence, Harbours), with production and writing assistance from Sam Bassal (Ocean Grove). “Cold Shoulder” is their third single, following “Tears of Joy” and “Trust Fall” earlier this year, and showcases the band at their best. Swirling guitars, droning synths and ethereal vocals combine to create a unique flavour of honest rock with soulful pop sensibilities.
“Cold Shoulder wrestles with deep-hearted disappointments that affect your sense of worth or self-esteem, when dreams, hopes or relationships fall apart that you once felt so certain of,” says Martorana.
“Years ago, Tom and I would call each other weekly to think our film or creative ideas out loud, and we would inspire each other whenever things really felt idle – we’d often joke or talk about randomly moving to LA to try and push for some sense of creative breakthrough or to run from our problems. Lines like “…Lets go down to Hollywood… Feeling like we’re bulletproof” is a bit of a throwback to that time.”
To coincide with the release, Peace Ritual will be performing at The Vanguard in Sydney this Friday 12 August (tickets available HERE). In collaboration with Melbourne skate shop Brick + Mortar, the EP will be available on cassette tape with a range of exclusive items including incense and handmade burners. The hardcore subculture of Last Ride Records gives the band and their music a supportive and creative network to resonate with likeminded people and grow together.
