EPOS has been a strong presence in the working-from-home space for a while now, owing mainly to the consistency and premium aesthetics of their enterprise headsets. Great sound, excellent battery life and superb comfort are all pretty much a given whenever I pick up an EPOS headset now, and those three pillars are only hammered home even more so with the EPOS Adapt 660 AMC.
Let’s clear the AMC bit up first. EPOS has an ongoing partnership with Aston Martin so the AMC here stands for Aston Martin Cognisant, the F1 racing team that has lent its identity to this headset. Due to this, the price tag is something you’d need to consider heavily before making the investment.
Design
The racing connection has, however, made this headset unequivocally the best-looking kit in the space. Bar none. Stylishly designed in Aston Marting racing green, the headset looks as incredible as it feels. These things are seriously comfortable on the head – soft, cushy and not overly heavy so you can easily withstand having these on your head from 9 to 5.
You can use these as ANC Bluetooth headphones to listen to anything but primarily you’d want to think of these as high-end UC headphones that efficiently handle and switch between multipoint connectivity using USB, Bluetooth 5.0 and a 3.5 mm cable.
That the 660 can work wonders for anyone clocking in from home is of no question. Noise cancelling is excellent with mics that successfully dull environmental noise and even catch nuanced highs that I can still hear with some of my other ANC headsets.
Ease of use is key here. Switching calls between sources is incredibly fast – like a race car [heh] – using a single button and voice is clear on both ends. I wouldn’t get any complaints that I’d sound distant; rather my speaking voice would come across rich, present and forward in the mix, much like the person on the other end. I could take business calls all day on this and not run into misunderstandings or have to repeat myself. That in itself makes up the value quite decently, while the comfort and aesthetics help fill it up to the ambitious price tag.
Audio
Really crispy, present calls aside, the sound here is overall incredibly impressive. You’ve got a nice balance from EPOS but when listening to music you can tell that the mids and highs are much more forward in the mix, hence brighter and more vibrant than the low-end. When it comes to bass, you’ve got a lot of detail there but just not enough thump when you’re listening to something heavier like EDM.
Battery
I’ve never been disappointed with a headset from EPOS when it comes to battery life. And while I do always make sure to charge this headset overnight, I’d easily get a full working day with ANC on and not have to worry about anything cutting off while I’m dialed in.
But there is one design choice that I really can’t understand. These headphones were released in Australia earlier this year, but for some reason EPOS has still chosen Micro-USB for charging over the more universal USB-C. Even Apple are making the switch the USB-C next year, which should show you that Micro-USB has become very dated within the past few years. I’m not quite sure of the reasoning for including such a port, but just know that you’d have to hold onto the tiny Micro USB cable that comes with the headphones.
Because who owns another Micro USB anymore?
Verdict
The way I see it, there are two barriers for the Adapt 660 AMC. The first is the Micro USB while the second is the price. You’re going to want to value style a lot if you’re investing in these instead of some of the other excellent headsets that EPOS offers. Granted, they are pretty much all premium, but the brand has more affordable ones that are worth looking into you. Although that green finish is really hard to resist.
