New Music Discoveries 3rd February: The Slow Readers Club, BLESSED, Slim Loris and more

Slow Readers Club

As we roll into February we’ve added another ten tracks to our Discovery playlist on Spotify and Apple Music. Our track of the week belongs to Manchester’s Slow Readers Club, with “Lay Your Troubles on Me”. The track is from their forthcoming album, Knowledge Freedom Power, which is to be released on the 24th of this month. The song is about recognising that someone is struggling and offering help.  It’s moody, emotive, taut and a fabulous reminder of everything we love about northern English music.

Sydney’s Sammi Constantine continues to deliver her fine slices of magnetic pop. This week she released “Dopamine”, which you’ll be able to see Sammi perform live if you head to the Lansdowne in Sydney on the 9th Feb, where she will be supporting Yorke. Tickets HERE.

MEKL might be a new name to you, but you might know their previous moniker, Miss Eileen and King Lear (also members of the family band Perch Creek). “New Mexico” is the first track from the newly named duo, and it’s a belter. It’s a bittersweet feel-good anthem with beautiful harmonies. A fun fact for the day is Eileen is also a member of classic rockers Willie J and the Bad Books.

Ghanaian-Australianhip-hop legend BLESSED has just dropped “HEYA”. It’s the first release since his debut album AUSSIE BLACKSTAR which was released last year. The track was produced by Matt Corby. Check out the dope video as well, which was filmed in his native Ghana.

Inspired by a tattoo, “Tomahawk and Feather” is the new single from British singer-songwriter Sam Butler. Firmly rooted in the sounds of Americana and Country, there is a wonderfully strong storytelling element to the track that captures the listener’s imagination. There’s a raw, rough and ready feel to production which really captures those campfire singalong vibes.

Sweden’s Slim Loris today released Red Loris Yellow Loris, their first full length album in seven years. “Sticky Toffee Pudding”, from that album, is a fantastic introduction to the band’s signature ‘Scandicana’ sound. There’s a real sense of size and scope to the track, with a big guitar sound and a sing-along ready chorus. It’s a fun listen, and we can’t wait to dive into the rest of the record proper.

“Let Go” is from Perth pop artist Harry Broun who releases his debut album Greater Things today. The track, which is about the darker side of a breakup, balances out its more dramatic subject matter, with some bright, bold and bouncing production. It’s got good energy and really showcases Broun as one to watch.

We’ve also added the exclusive premiere of “Rockstar” from Arty Ziff featuring Lemonade Baby.
