A brand new, in-house recording studio has opened in Sydney. Set in Darlinghurst, the Mix 24 studio is tranquil yet equipped with the latest technology. The brains behind the operation is Eamon O’Kane who has fitted out the studio with high-quality brands such as AMS-NEVE 824, SS, RUPERTNEVE DESIGNS, MOTU and DYNAUDIO.
There were no short-cuts taken in the creation of the studio, as Eamon explains: “Creating the studio was a labour of love, planning started in late 2021 and we completed build and install in November 2022. Commissioning and calibration was completed by December 2022. Delivery of equipment was our biggest hurdle and time constraint. Our /AMS-Neve 8424 console was 6 months late (due to international supply chain issues). They are completely hand made (all parts) in Burnley U.K.”
As well as providing the studio for hire, they have also launched their mixing services, under the ‘mix24’ banner. They offer a 24-hour mixing service on stereo or stem mixes. This can be performed either in-person or remotely. The studio had a soft launch back in November, and is now publicly available for bookings, with the fitout complete.
With regards to the mixing service, Eamon writes “Our focus is not just on local Australian artists but also on international clients. In the past Australia has always suffered from the ‘tyranny of distance’. We are attempting to turn that around, while the Northern hemisphere sleeps, we of course are awake and at work. We can offer Nth hemisphere clients quick turnaround because of this.”
Eamon is well credentialled. He has a Diploma in audio engineering, and has extensive experience in the USA, working with Sony Publishing and under world renowned engineer/producer Richard Dashut (Fleetwood Mac, Matthew Sweet, Bachman Turner Overdrive).
The studio is available seven days a week and is conveniently located in Darlinghurst. With the ability to work locally as well as remotely, it will no doubt find favour with local musicians as well as those further afield.
