Indie singer/songwriter Katie Wighton is today releasing “Narcissist”, her latest glistening earworm, a visceral riposte to an ex-partner. “Narcissist” follows on from the catchy “Take You Home” which was released late in 2022. We’re thrilled today to be have the first viewing of the video for this cracking new song.
You might know Katie from the ARIA Award-winning quartet All Our Exes Live in Texas. Katie is a gifted songwriter who can pen a phrase that grabs you by the scruff of the neck. With the voice of an angel, her melodies tend to be fun and uplifting, even when she is calling out bad behavior. “Narcissist’ is all of these. It’s short, snappy and sassy.
About “Narcissist”, Katie writes: “This song has a few meanings. It started out being a rant about how women are always held to different standards to men (I could wax lyrical about this for eons haha). It then turned into a rant about this male musician I dated for a SECOND who was a total narcissist. After we stopped seeing each other the only time he would text me was about his single releases or to get a contact for someone… That’s what the line “Take me off your mailing list” is about. UNSUBSCRIBE!”
The video clip was inspired by by Cynthia Nixon’s Be A Lady They Said clip. It was made by Rick Clifford, with TV footage created by Gina Somfleth with assistance from Guy Perkins.
To celebrate the release of “Narcissist”, Katie will be performing two shows in Victoria late April – details below. If you can, go and see her. The banter is always as rewarding as the songs she sings.
