DC’s first Latino superhero is unleashed in Blue Beetle trailer

Recent college grad Jaime Reyes returns home full of aspirations for his future, only to find that home is not quite as he left it. As he searches to find his purpose in the world, fate intervenes when Jaime unexpectedly finds himself in possession of an ancient relic of alien biotechnology: the Scarab. When the Scarab suddenly chooses Jaime to be its symbiotic host, he is bestowed with an incredible suit of armour capable of extraordinary and unpredictable powers, forever changing his destiny as he becomes the Super Hero BLUE BEETLE.

Described by director Angel Manuel Soto as an “authentic” take on superhero culture; “Latino is not a genre, you know, yeah, we’re not a genre. We’re not a buzzword either. So it is a superhero movie that happens to half a Latino at the forefront.” And boasting an incredible cast, including George Lopez, Susan Sarandon, and Adriana Barraza, and fronted by Xolo Maridueña as the titular hero, Blue Beetle looks to break barriers within the world of DC.

Blue Beetle is scheduled to soar into cinemas from August 17th, 2023.
