Exclusive Video Premiere: GODSWOUNDS “Tantamount Love” (2023)

GODSWOUNDS

If you like your music to be dramatic, then GODSWOUNDS are going to be your band. The Sydney-based experimental rock-band have got it in spades. We’re thrilled to be premiering their latest emotive salve, “Tantamount Love” today ahead of its release on Thursday.

Using a variety of technologies, including samples from an 8-bit Gameboy (I kid you not!), there is a muscleball of energy in the genre-bending “Tantamount Love”.  The track was produced and mixed by Toshi Kasai (Melvins, Tool).

They give us some feedback into the background of the track: “Etched onto the stationary of a hotel notepad, the late, great Freddie Mercury left clues to the original title of Queen’s famed ‘Bohemian Rhapsody’. What was it originally called? Why, ‘Mongolian Rhapsody’, of course! ‘Tantamount Love’, is our take on what a Mongolian Rhapsody could be. It’s a psychedelic history of the of the rise and rise again of Mongolia jam-packed into high energy and fury.

The video was filmed, directed, and edited by band’s frontman Lachlan Kerr who taught himself all the skills needed to conquer the animation. It’s a psychedelic examination of the history of the Mongolian empire through to the modern day.

Taking the unconventional route, and ensuring a rich experience along the way, the band had a year-long residency in Taiwan. They’ve also toured with Regurgitator and established their own festival, ‘Sonichimaera,’ in Eora/Sydney, featuring artists from Europe and Asia.

If you dig King Gizzard and the Lizard Wizard then you should lap up GODSWOUNDS.

The band will be played at the OAF Gallery bar on Friday 11th August – tickets HERE
