Brisbane’s Concrete Surfers are back with a bang, releasing this week “Control”, a track brimming with energy and reminiscent of pulsating ’90s punk. We’re thrilled today to be premiering the video for “Control”, ahead of its release on Monday.
The track advocates that sometimes we need to acknowledge the hopelessness in the world, and that we need to work out how to adapt within our environment. We need to accept that we simply can’t control everything!
‘We wanted to take a different approach with Control. It’s about coming to grips with the fact that most decisions are out of our control and we can only really adapt to situations in real time. It’s been an interesting few years being an artist. Living through a pandemic, and the way social media has developed, has given us the time to reflect on what we want to say as a band. What it means to be a musician has changed drastically since pre-pandemic. To be honest we were feeling a bit lost as to what we wanted to achieve as a band. Control stems from that feeling, and in turn made us feel reinspired from the direction the music was taking after recording it.” – Concrete Surfers
There’s a raw energy about “Control”, it bristles with vitality and passion. The band headed out of their hometown to Adelaide to record the track, at Interim Studios in Adelaide with Colby Robertson (Horror My Friend, Sweater Curse, World View). It was mastered by Mikey Young.
The video was created with local filmmaker & longtime collaborator Harley Jones. The film is purposefully ambiguous, as the band explains: “Most of our music videos are narrative driven, however we wanted to do something more ambiguous with ‘Control’. The core theme for the video is that we wanted control to be personified in a sense. We did this simply by creating a shirt that had Control written on the collar (Supplied by FeedDog Studios) which was worn by our friend Brad and then creating a conflict between him and the band.”
The band will be launching the single at Black Bear Lodge in Brisbane on the 16th September. They’ve been busy working on their album, so this is a nice opportunity to catch the boys in action.
