Asus has announced the Asus ROG Ally X is coming to Australia with pre-orders starting today.
The upgraded version of the ROG Ally features the same AMD Ryzen Z1 Extreme processor, but we’ll now see an increase in battery life, RAM and storage along with a brand-new chassis that improves the ergonomics, cooling and connectivity.
Asus have advised they have taken gamer feedback on board from the previous version of this console which has guided a lot of their decisions. The new 1TB SSD is an upgrade from the 512GB on the original device. There is also a re-designed motherboard which has an M.2 2280 form factor slot which will allow you to easily upgrade the storage. Pricing will also start at A$1,599.
If battery life was a concern for you, the battery has been upgraded to an 80 Wh battery, which is double the capacity of the previous model. Having this as a console, specifically on the go, you really do need to have as much juice as possible to keep gaming.
The extra battery does come with an added weight of 70 grams over the previous model, but thanks to the redistributed chassis it does feel lighter than the ROG Ally. In keeping with the new battery, the new fans are 23% smaller and use 50% thinner fan blades to improve the airflow around the device.
Bradley Howe, Head of Consumer, Systems Business Group, ASUS Australia, commented on the news, stating “We’re excited to launch the new ROG Ally X in Australia and New Zealand after receiving overwhelmingly positive feedback from users on the ROG Ally last year. We have continued to listen to our customers’ feedback, resulting in the new ROG Ally X, which offers great improvements to battery, thermal cooling and storage. We are delighted that this best-in-class handheld console will now be available for individuals looking for a powerful yet portable on-the-go gaming experience.”
The ASUS ROG Ally X is now available to pre-order from the ASUS Eshop and JB HiFi.It is expected to be released on July 22.
