As we step further into June, we’ve added ten more tracks to our Discovery Playlist on Spotify and Apple Music. Our Track of the Week is “24 Hours in Paris” and comes from Naarm-based pop-trio Blusher.
The track is lush and dreamy electro-pop, infused with a hint of melancholy. The band shares the background to the track: “‘24 Hours in Paris’ is our bittersweet darling. We started writing it after a D&M about the times that we’d done the “run away from your sadness” overseas trip ~ where you find yourself in a beautiful place, expecting it’ll heal you instantly, but really, you just end up eating a croissant in a gutter and overthinking.

The London-based pan-continental instrumental quartet Los Bitchos are back with a new single – “Don’t Change”. The track is the second single to be released from their forthcoming sophomore album which is set for release on August 31st via City Slang. The track is a pure injection of sunshine, bliss and vibes! It’s this vibrant musical melting pot of genres and cultures that’s just a joy to listen to – a feel good bop if ever there was one! It also comes accompanied with a particularly joyful and playful video with the band really leaning into the sunkissed holiday vibes.
Lime Cordiale have announced that their third album Enough Of The Sweet Talk will be released on the 26th July. About the album, the band says “Enough Of The Sweet Talk is structured as though it’s taking us through the course of a relationship in chronological order. The innocent early days, the learning, the love, the doubt, the conflict and the realisation of loss.”. I’m guessing that the latest track to drop, “Cold Treatment”, is going to figure on the proverbial ‘B-Side’ not far from the end. It might be amongst the ‘conflict’ tracks, but it’s still got the Lime Cordiale party vibe which we love so much. The band are doing some massive shows in October to support the release of the album, and yes, Perth and Adelaide are included as well. Head to their website for more details.
“YSHK” is the new single from Berlin-based Byron Bay psych rockers The Dharma Chain. “YSHK” (You Should Have Known) is the final track to be released from the band’s debut album Nowhere which releases later in the month (June 21st) on Berlin label Anomic Records. The track reflects a bit of a shift in the band’s sound, with the track sitting with the band for sometime and growing with them, before finally being re-recorded in an East Berlin basement studio. And Berlin really comes through on this one, with a strong aggressive and industrial undercurrent to proceedings; all delivered with a healthy dose of fuzzy guitars, of course.
Perth-born, now Sydney-based singer-songwriter St. South has today released “BIG SADS”, which will the be the title-track from her next EP, to be released on 20th September. It’s a beautiful and poignant track where the artist reflects on her father, who tragically passed away in 2020. ” “The last three years were full of some very big sads, and this is the song I wish I’d heard in the early months of grieving my dad. It’s a song about me, for me, and the things I struggle with when grieving. [..] It’s about surrendering to sadness, and resting when you need to…And, it’s about my dad; ‘I remember everything that you ever said to me’.”
Sydney’s GRAACE is currently tearing it up in London, where she had a sold-out show earlier this week. She has also released “Her”, a relateable song about the irresistable inclination to compare yourself to your ex-partners new flame. As she describes: “Comparing yourself to their new partner, you might view them through rose-tinted glasses, leading to a mix of jealousy, self-doubt, and infatuation.” In good news for fans, GRAACE has announced that she will be dropping a new EP, Afterimage, on the 16th of August.
This week saw Kamilaroi and Tongan artist Radical Son release his new single “Yuluwirri Wandabaa (The Rainbow Dreaming)”. The track which will feature on his upcoming album Bilambiyal (The Learning), due out next month, also brings together an illustrious group of Indigenous talent, with Emma Donovan and Frank Yamma joining Radical Son on the powerful track. Emphatic and captivating, “Yuluwirri Wandabaa” is a power house performance, and the interplay between the three vocals is top notch.
Aydin Sayar’s songwriter’s emotive bedroom pop is at its most affecting in “Pool Party”, a moody track about body image. Washed-out production with acoustic guitar and dreamy vocals detail an uncomfortable social situation many of us can relate to.
Also added to the playlist this week are new tracks from Naarm four piece Moaning Lisa (“wayside”) and NSW singer-songwriter Georgie Winchester with the bluesy and emotive “Love Me”.
