Sydney’s Resetless Leg are on the cusp of releasing their fourth studio album Dance Around My Head. It’s been three years since the release of their last album, the fabulous Dream Buffet, and we so thrilled today to be premiering the title-track of this new album, with video, ahead of its release on Friday.
“Dance Around My Head” is a beautiful and uplifting mix of sweet melodies and jangly guitars, with a killer guitar solo thrown into the mix. There is a vulnerability to the lyrics, where anxiety runs high, yet the drums and underlying guitar melodies counter this, giving it some sweet nostalgic feels. Thought provoking songwriting and beautifully balanced musicianship seep through the pores of “Dance Around My Head”. If you dig iconic indie rock with a melancholic twist, then this will be right up your alley.
About the track, singer and songwriter Ben Charmie writes: “Restless Leg guitarist Adam Taylor titled one of the first demo recordings of this song ‘Twerps-ish’. Personally, I think ‘Stroppies-ish’ would have been closer to the mark. But maybe I’m splitting hairs? I think someone else said it sounds like a Paul Weller song. Whatever you want to compare it to, the album’s title track is all jangly guitars, a screaming guitar solo over a surfy backbeat and wandering bassline. These elements provide the background to the circular call and response vocals that are the ‘thoughts, that dance around my head’ and which sketch out a little scene of mild paranoia spurred by some small town gossip.
The title of the song and which is the title track from our new album, is taken from a line in this song: ‘these the thoughts dance ’round my head…’ and which seeks to paint a little vignette of small town paranoia.”
Ben gives us the background to the video: “The clip was produced and directed by our friend Mark Moldre who is a brilliant musician in his own right and who Restless Leg played a support slot at his Sydney album launch last year. Mark produces all his own video clips. This one was shot on a beautiful March morning at a couple of locations across Sydney’s inner west.”
The album was produced by Jamie Hutchings (Bluebottle Kiss, Infinity Broke), and recorded at The Pet Food Factory in Marrickville by Jason Whalley (Frenzal Rhomb) and at Tempe River Studio, Marrickville with longtime friend and engineer Tim Kevin.
Restless Leg will be kicking off a tour to support the release of the album this Saturday night at the Link & Pin in Woy Woy. They will then be performing a number of shows around NSW, Queensland, Tasmania and Victoria. Get along and support live music! All date the dates are below.
