We’re welcoming Spring with ten more tracks added to our Discovery playlist on Spotify and Apple Music, including two we exclusively premiered earlier in the week.
Brisbane psych rockers Nice Biscuit take home the first Track of the Week of the month with “Love That Takes You Up” – the final single from their forthcoming album SOS (Out October 4th).
“Love That Takes You Up” is the perfect soundtrack to the changing seasons. Positive, uplifting it’s overflowing with disco grooves, good vibes and gorgeous harmonies. According to the band, the song is all about “blissing out in all the love that surrounds us in the world.” Easier said than done sometimes, but not when you’ve hit play on this one to be honest – the optimism and vibes are infectious.
There are some incredible bands coming out of Liverpool in the north of the UK now, and leading the charge is STONE. In July, the quartet released their debut album, Fear Life For A Lifetime. We caught them in December last year in Manchester supporting DMA’S and were blown away. Frontman Fin Power is mesmerising on stage, and the band kicked arse in a big venue.
They have reworked the vulnerable “Save Yourself” from the album, with our own DOPE LEMON. Fin and Angus Stone met in the Netherlands at a festival and clearly hit it off. Here’s hoping that STONE will grace our shores before too long. Be sure to give them a follow and listen to the rest of the album.
At the AU review we love it when some of our favourite musicians and artists work together on new music. So we were excited to see Tim Rogers and Lance Ferguson have dropped another track as part of their collaborative project The Ferguson Rogers Process. “Dirty-Clean” is a further example of duo’s take on Disco, with debut single “Live Together” out in July. More Disco and more Ferguson Rogers is never a bad thing – so hopefully there’s more to come!
“wander//wonder” is the latest offering from the QLD indie-punk trio Haters, and is a fun and bouncy track of surf riffs and gang vocals. It puts the foot down against dark thoughts and embraces individuality to reclaim one’s own life.
The Melbourne pop songstress Stilla returns with “Touch Me”, an upbeat groove of bright guitars and shimmering synths. Her glossy vocals swim through the mix, singing of lust and unabashed desire in the heat of the moment.
Fresh from her tour around the UK with Charm of Finches, Canadian singer-songwriter Mia Kelly is releasing “Si j’étais franche” – the latest and final single from her forthcoming album To Be Clear (out October 4th). As you can probably guess from the title, Kelly writes and performs in both French and English. It’s a beautiful slice of contemporary folk, perhaps more pop-coded and light hearted than some of Kelly’s other work (at her own admission), but one that really showcases her beautiful, rich vocal. Captivating – even with the language barrier.
West Australian, by way of Melbourne, singer-songwriter Jacob Diamond has just released his stunning new album Yes Angel on Blossom Rot Records. The album has been something of a labour of love, three years in the making, and featuring contributions from Julia Jacklin and Stella Mozgawa (Warpaint). Full of beautiful and beguiling performances it’s wrong to single out any one song, so whilst we’re including album opener “New Museum” on the playlist this week, go and take the time to listen to the whole thing – you will not regret it!
Also added to the playlist this week is “Do You See Me”, the new single from Dan Sultan.
And finally, we have two premieres from earlier in the week – “Home” from Brianna McGeehan and “Never Met a Stranger” from Parker Woodland.
