Exclusive Single Premiere: Fingerless “Monster” (2024)

Fingerless

The prolific and wonderful Fingerless from Meanjin/Brisbane are edging closer to releasing their fifth album, and today we have the pleasure of premiering the fourth single to drop, the gentle and soothing acoustic ballad, “Monster”. We also have a beautiful video to accompany the track.

“Monster” is rich and velvety smooth. They have been playing it live for a while now, and finally it has been recorded, as songwriter Marc Cheesman explains: “it’s a pretty simple song, but a deeply personal one. We’ve been playing this live for a long time, but I resisted recording it. Basically it’s about self doubt. Maybe that’s why I didn’t want to record it…”.  We’re glad that they have. It has a calming, nurturing quality to it, with beautiful harmonies that mask the unsettling emotions.

The track was recorded live in the studio, with some overdubs added later. The keyboard used was a Yamaha PSS470 and the vocals were recorded with a Neumann U 47. They have been working with Jeff Lovejoy (Screamfeeder, Sahara Beck, Blues Arcadia) on this upcoming fifth album.

The band is a trio, with Marc Cheeseman on vocals, guitars, percussion, keys and harmonica, Warwick Epiha on bass and backing vocals and Jonny Pickvance on drums, backing vocals and percussion.

The video was shot, directed, edited and everything else by Jonny Pickvance. It’s totally mesmerising – it’s a trip.

To celebrate the release of “Monster”, the band has some t-shirts available, so head over to their Bandcamp and grab one.
