Seymour Centre’s contemporary music program, Seymour Nights, returns for another season with live performances from some of the most vibrant voices and artists in Australian music and beyond. Championing local artists and new sounds, performances will take place in Sydney’s Seymour Courtyard, with a diverse repertoire of new music for visitors to enjoy.
And it all continues this weekend with a just announced, surprise performance from Sydney folk-pop singer-songwriter. Alex The Astronaut, this Saturday.
Alex will be joined by Sydney’s own Kiri who will be performing two, intimate solo sets on Saturday, November 16th. Kiri’s eclectic influences are heard in her joining of traditional jazz harmony with experimental production, trombones and quasi-choral vocal arrangements, tied together in her confessional lyrics and emotive deluges.
This special Seymour Nights series coincides with the presentation of the two part play The Inheritance. The performances will take place between each part of the play, on select weekend dates in November and December. As always, the series is completely free, and open too all ages (and even dogs are welcome!). Food and drink will be available for purchase in the courtyard courtesy of the Iron Ramen food truck (come for the music, stay for the karaage!).
Today’s announcement follows the program officially kicking off this past weekend, with Jamaica Moana, Huck Hastings and The Morrisons gracing the courtyard stage.
Rounding out the series from here, there will be three more stacked evenings of music to end the November/December season.
On Sunday, November 24th, the incomparable Lily Guerrero will be joined by her band for two sets of gorgeous Latin music.
Described as ‘fusion of Balkan brass with dubstep, rock and jazz’, Midnight Tea Party will take to the stage on Saturday, November 30th for three sets of their own.
The 2024 series then comes to a close on Saturday, December 7th with two solo acts from opposite ends of the globe: Alana Wilkinson (Melbourne) and Tennyson King (Canada/Hong Kong). The two will each play a solo set and finish the night off playing a set together.
Alana hits the stage following the release and tour of her debut album, Half Time Oranges, while Tennyson returns to the country with with his signature “rock and roll infused with earthy roots and blues subtly laced in psychedelic ear candy.”
If you’re not able to get down to the Seymour Centre in the next couple of months, stay tuned for their early 2025 season, with details being announced soon.
