Clap Your Hands Say Yeah announce Australian tour, performing debut album in full for 20th anniversary

Today it was announced that Philadelphia’s Clap Your Hands Say Yeah are coming back to Australia & New Zealand next year as part of the 20th anniversary tour for their 2005 debut, self-titled LP.

While the band – which these days is essentially a solo project of its singer/songwriter founder Alec Ounsworth – have released five more full length albums in the two decades since, the debut is still widely considered their best. So fans will be understandably excited by the news, as they will be playing the album in full.

Alec toured for the 10th anniversary of the album as well, however skipped Australia and New Zealand on that run – in fact their last Australian tour was all the way back in 2011. So this tour is certainly a long time coming. And especially welcome, given recent US & Europe runs of 20th/10th anniversary tours from the likes of The Postal Service (Give Up), Death Cab For Cutie (Transatlanticism), Manchester Orchestra (Cope) and Modest Mouse (Good News For People Who Love Bad News) have all skipped Australia and New Zealand.

It’s unclear if any original band members will be part of the tour – they haven’t toured with Alec for a decade or more. But we’d expect more details on the makeup of the tour to be revealed closer to the date.

The tour will also run through the US and Canada, as well as Europe, before wrapping up in Australia and New Zealand. A 20th anniversary of the album will also be released to coincide with the tour. A 2004 version of “Heavy Metal” will be part of this re-release, and they released this “Original Version” today to get everyone hyped for the tour and the release.
