The Twelve South PlugBug Travel 120 wall charger is an on-the-go essential

If you’ve ever been into a tech store to look for a charger for your devices, be it phones, tablets or laptops, I don’t blame you for being lost in the sheer amount of options. Different brands, ports, wattages and overall compatibility always make things a little tricky.

Even if you know what you’re after, it can still be a challenge to find that single option to suit most, if not all, of the devices you own. Enter Twelve South’s PlugBug Travel 120 wall charger. While it’s certainly geared towards catering for all your devices in practically any location across the globe, it’s even a wonderful charging solution for the home.

It not only provides up to 120 watts of power but also location tracking via Apple’s Find My network, making it an essential item for outings and general travel, even with the premium A$219.95 price tag.

Design

From a design perspective, the PlugBug Travel 120 is a little smaller than most 120W chargers that I’ve come across. It’s also worth noting that the PlugBug range also comes in a 50W option with only two USB-C ports as opposed to the four on the 120W charger we’re reviewing here.

While its size isn’t that much smaller, what did impress me was the decision to include the four ports on the very bottom of the charger. This makes it incredibly easy to put behind a bedside table, bed or even a couch, without smothering and crushing the cables.

The front of the device is relatively clean and minimal, while the back includes a release button to pop out and change between a range of international plugs, a small button for Find My Device pairing and a door which houses the CR2032 3V coin battery, the same as you would find in a standard AirTag. This allows the device to be tracked even when it’s not plugged into a power source.

The four ports below are all USB-C, and while I can imagine some might be after the older USB-A ports for older devices, it feels like a double-edged sword in 2025. While almost all new devices are USB-C compatible, those older USB-A ports would likely compromise the total power of the device as those ports rarely deliver more than 15W. But if you were after those older USB-A ports, it’s worth keeping in mind.

The PlugBug Travel 120 also comes with a handy fabric-covered hard case to pop everything into, including all 6 detachable international US, CN, AU, EU, UK and KR adapters.

It’s a nice touch, and while it is a little bulky for something as small and basic as a charger, it does help the entire package feel that much more premium.

Performance & Functionality

When it comes to charging, the PlugBug Travel 120 does it all. Providing up to 120 watts of power, the device can utilise all four USB-C ports at once to charge a range of phones, tablets and even laptops.

The total wattage will be split between those four ports depending on what you’re charging, but I can imagine most people will be using multiple ports for phones and tablets. That being said, the PlugBug Travel 120 can dynamically split power between each of the ports, meaning you could charge four iPhone 16 Pro Max handsets at their maximum 30W capabilities.

When it comes to charging a USB-C laptop, however, it might be worth considering how much that might need. Compatible MacBooks are listed on Twelve South’s website, and you could theoretically charge a MacBook Air, iPad and iPhone with ease from three out of the four charging ports. Certain MacBook Pro models however, can use up to 140W on their own, which will then suck up that entire 120W from a single port, rendering those remaining ports useless.

Overall, the PlugBug Travel 120 is still a great option for phones, tablets and laptops alike, making it an incredibly versatile and reliable charging solution for most of your devices at home.

Software

The PlugBug Travel 120 works with Apple’s Find My network, but only Apple’s Find My network. Sorry, Samsung users, no SmartThings Find here. That might play a huge role for most non-Apple users and can, in turn, negate some of the value provided by the PlugBug Travel chargers.

But for Apple users, it’s as basic as any other compatible device on your Find My network. Simply hold the round pairing button on the back of the PlugBug Travel charger, head to the Find My app on your Apple Device, and you’re good to go.

Like any Find My device, it relies on other iPhones and Find My devices in the area, meaning you can get an accurate location in pretty much any populated area and country around the world. While it might not make sense to have this included in a charger at first, it soon becomes a game-changer when this thing comes on the road with you.

Tracking is also not only accurate off a compatible Apple device, but you can even get the PlugBug Travel to play a beeping noise to help you spot its exact location should you not be able to track it down immediately. While more devices are using the Find My network every year, it’s hard to go without once you’ve needed to use it.

Verdict & Value

Twelve South’s PlugBug Travel 120 pretty much does it all. The slim, compact design, premium carry case, and ability to charge almost any USB-C compatible device almost anywhere in the world simply blows me away.

Top it off with the ability to track this thing down via Apple’s Find My network, and it’s hard to recommend anything else, even for the premium price tag.
