Instantly recognisable Australian brand Bundaberg have continued their well-received The Master Distillers’ Collective series this year with the release of the very shiny, very luscious looking MDC Blenders Edition 2015, sticking to a commitment for experimenting with some of the distillery’s richest and rarest rum reserves to see how far they can take the classic Dark Rum.
Focused on making each blend unique, Bundaberg have poured a lot into this current limited edition release, retaining their signature but still offering new angles to the liquid. It has been finished in port and sherry barrels to has a very smooth, sweet palate of liquorice and caramel, making way for a bit of spice and smoke in the back palate, held together with notes of dark fruits, vanilla essence and raisins, staying consistent with its nose. The finish is really pleasant, and actually quite soft.
Each year Bundaberg develops a new limited edition blend to re-imagine what their classic Rum can taste like. Of course, many know Bundaberg from the cola-paired RTDs, but this blend in particularly would work quite well in a variety of cocktails, given how adaptable but consistent the taste is. I would gladly take this one on the rocks.
Each 700ml bottle of MDC Blenders Edition 2015 (40% ABV) carries a unique number and is available for a recommended retail price of $89.99. You can check it out on Dan Murphy’s HERE.
