One of Australia’s most celebrated brewing companies, Little Creatures have hopped into spring with the release of Dog Days, a brew that continues their seasonal series, which began with winter’s Return of the Dread. While ‘dread’ was a strong beer with a lot of punch to warm you up, Dog Days is somewhat of an opposite, with an ABV of just 4.4% and a stronger focus on flavour.
Using Cascade, Summit, and Mosaic hops (all USA-based) along with pilsner malt, carahell, malted wheat, cararye and rolled oats, Little Creatures have delivered yet another beer that meets the high standard we have come to expect from the Freemantle brewery.
Touted as a brew which captures “the feeling of refreshment on a long, hot summer day” this new, destined-to-be-a-hit beer is crispy and clean with a very pleasant, tropical aroma that carries through to a peachy palate, mirroring it’s beautiful straw yellow colour.
You’ll likely get some rich, juicy, and sweet fresh fruits as the most noticeable element of Dog Days, finish off with a bitter back end. Dried oats, citrus, and fresh peach are in abundance here, the body vibrant but soft enough on the mouthfeel that you could easily finish one off in no time.
Dog Days will be available for a limited time over summer, in a similar fashion to Return of the Dread (which you should definitely pick up if you can find one!). Little Creatures have added a focus on seasonal releases as a permanent fixture on their calendar and their second limited release is most definitely a winner.
The next release is planned for winter 2016, and I for one cannot wait to see what they come up with.
Dog Days is available for a RRP of $21 for 6 x 330ml. You can check out more info at their official website..
