The classic New York pizzeria regularly serves as inspiration whenever a new by-the-slice joint opens up anywhere around the world, and this latest Melbourne diner is no exception. Simply titled Pizza Pizza Pizza, the new venue over at the Meyers Place precinct pays homage to the pizzerias of the 70’s, dedicated to serving carb lovers large 18-inch slices bringing together the flavours that have proved most popular for Melbourne in the past. It’s from the team behind the now closed Mr Big Stuff, and there’s a little secret small bar attached for those in the know (which now includes you!)
They’ve kept the menu nice and small for this one, offering five different pizzas including the classic Margarita, an old school Ham & Pineapple, the obligatory Pepperoni pizza, one focused on Mushrooms and Truffle Oil, and a Triple Cheese that blends parmesan, mozzarella, and boccocini. The supersized slices will be priced at $4 each but there’s also full size pizza pies available for $28 each.
For the guests who ask nicely, the team behind the counter might allow a few lucky diners into the back kitchen, which is a nameless, secret speakeasy filled with shelves of knock-em-out hard spirits and, we assume, some Italian classics to sip on while one lounges back in one of the cosy booths. Melbourne’s answer to Frankies perhaps?
